Exhibitions
The history of roads and road travelling comes alive as you walk around the exhibition - from prehistorically local roads to the electric car of the late nineties.
Here you share the hazards of Vårstigen, an ancient road winding along the beautiful river Driva and join the pilgrims on their strenuous journey to Saint Olav´s tomb in Nidaros. You can meet the pioneers of early tourism, and study road building in Finnmark between the two world wars.
The open-air museum offers a pleasant stroll along Kongevegen ("the King´s Road") where you visit Nybakken, a resting place for travellers in Gudbrandsdalen. Other features include the Engerodden post station, Ringerike, a typical road station Høydalsmo, Telemark, and the Gosen road guard cottage from Nord-Trøndelag.
You see a presentation of road building machinery, a complete crushing and sorting mill, a camping site for veteran cars and the museums restaurant, Lysaker Gjestgiveri, originally located in Bærum, not far from Oslo. Her you may enjoy a nice cup of tea indoor, or outside in our English garden.
